What Are the Best Ways to Prepare for a Breast Reduction?
Breast Reduction
When you have abnormally large breasts that cause a number of negative physical symptoms, such as neck and back pain, your only choice may be to have breast reduction surgery. It has been reported that most women are satisfied with the results. Men who have conditions like gynecomastia, where their breasts are enlarged, may also choose to have surgery. It is a major surgery, but it has benefits. It may be done on an outpatient basis, but normally you may have to be hospitalized for one night. There’s a significant amount of preparation required as well.
Preparation for a Breast Reduction
Before surgery, the doctor will take a case history of your medical life, talking about any conditions you may have and medications you may be on. You may be questioned on whether you have had any lumps removed from your breasts. You may have to have a mammogram before the surgery, just as a matter of necessary requirements. You will need to be prepared in terms of what you have in your house. It is mandatory to have these things close by:
- A lot of ice
- Clean towels and gauze
- Loose clothing
- Creams and lotions to be put on incision sites (these will be suggested and prescribed by your surgeon)
You may also want to plan, in advance, to be driven home after the stay in the hospital. Doctors advise that a patient have someone stay with them for the first night at home as well.
