Doctor’s Comments
This patient suffered from chronic nasal congestion and obstruction of nasal airflow after sustaining an injury to his nose as a teenager. Despite nose surgery by an ENT surgeon shortly after the trauma, the patient had no improvement with his nasal breathing and was also told that he snored while he slept. After consultation with Dr. Gregory Park, the patient was found to have severe deviation of his nasal septum, inferior turbinate hypertrophy (enlargement) and internal and external nasal valve collapse. The external appearance of the nose had a pinched left middle nasal side wall and collapsed left nostril. A septoplasty, turbinate reduction surgery, and open rhinoplasty was performed with placement of a left spreader graft and left batten graft. After surgery, the patient was very happy with the appearance of his new nose, he no longer snored at night, and was able to breathe with ease through his nose.
