Chemical Peels Treatments
Conveniently located to serve San Diego, Oceanside, CA and Carlsbad, CA
Chemical peel is especially useful for the fine wrinkles on cheeks, forehead, and around the eyes, and the vertical wrinkles around the mouth.
The chemical solution can be applied to the entire face, or to a specific area -for example, around the mouth – sometimes in conjunction with a facelift.
After healing, the skin is lighter in color, tighter, smoother, and younger looking
If your you’re wondering how to improve and smooth the texture on your facial skin, you could consider a chemical peel. There are multiple chemical peel options that can be used to improve blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and pigment. Peels can also enhance the appearance of acne prone skin, by helping to control acne, and reduce the appearance of acne scars.
Lunch Time Peels
Chemical peels use solutions to remove the skin’s damaged outer layers. The following peels are used for this purpose.
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are mild acid peel used for light peels. AHA peels can produce smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who don’t want any down time. These peels are great for fine lines, dryness, uneven skin tone, and acne. Multiple peels may be required from weekly to monthly applications to achieve the best results.
Uses:
- Smooths rough, dry skin
- Improves texture of sun-damaged skin
- Aids in control of acne
- Corrects pigment problems when mixed with bleaching agents
- Often used as TCA pre-treatment
Considerations:
- Multiple peels may be required
- Sunscreen use is recommended
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used in various concentrations for medium depth medical grade peels. TCA can improve fine lines and wrinkles, moderate to severe surface blemishes and pigmentation. A full-face TCA peel usually takes around 15 minutes to perform. A series of TCA peels spaced out every month or so are often required to achieve the best results in patients with severe sun damage or wrinkled skin. With the TCA blends that are offered in our office, you can expect some minor peeling with no down time.
Uses:
- Smooths out fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduces superficial blemishes
- Improves pigmentation problems
Considerations:
- Safe for neck or other body areas
- May require pre-treatment with Retin-A or AHA creams
- Treatment takes only 10-15 minutes
- Can be used in all skin types

Preparing for Your Chemical Peels Treatment
Pretreatment of the skin with Retin-A is sometimes recommended. This medication is applied to the skin about one month before the use of TCA to allow for better penetration of the peeling solution. If Retin-A is a bit too harsh on your skin, an AHA cream could be applied pre-treatment instead. A bleaching agent called Hydroquinone is sometimes used with the pre-treatment to optimize the improvement of blotchy skin.
After Your Chemical Peels Treatment
With an AHA and TCA peel, the temporary redness, flaking and dryness should not prevent you from working or engaging in your normal activities. A fresher and improved skin texture will result with continued AHA and TCA treatments, if required. Protecting your skin from the sun using sunscreen and wide brimmed hat is also important following these acid peels.
Your New Look
Your initial improvements from AHA peels may be subtle. You will notice a healthier glow to your skin at first. With continued treatments, you will notice a general improvement in the texture of your skin.
The results of a TCA peel will provide noticeably improved skin pigmentation and smoother, fresher-looking skin.
